This was a kick! – I first met Dana Carvey when he performing across the street in Lake Tahoe at the Montbleau Casino while I had my year-long show over at the Horizon Casino Resort. He was a true gentlemen and very kind. Liked him instantly. Flash forward 9 years and we hooked up once again, this time performing at the legendary Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA!
Two days of packed audiences, and a helluva great time! Dana was in top form as he plowed through all-new material (getting ready for an upcoming comedy special which will pop up on Netflix later this year). Both of his sons also performed stand-up sets, and are definitely following strongly in their dad’s footsteps. Just a great family!
I always love the audiences at the C&M Club and the owner, Mike Lacey, and I got to chatting during this week and realized it was my 25th anniversary of appearing there! Wow! I owe so much to this very unique club – learning from the best early on when I first started out. There’s the old saying, “To play better tennis, you play with better tennis players”. And the level of the comedians who worked here has always been OUTSTANDING. (Here’s a few of the many I’ve been fortunate enough to share the stage with over the last 2+ decades whenever I happen to be in town: Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Lovitz, Allen Havey, Garry Shandling, Jay Leno, Cristela Alonzo, Alonzo Bodden, Larry Miller, Chelsie Handler, and the list goes on! I’ve even had to FOLLOW Seinfeld and Shandling onstage – TWICE! How’s that for ‘comedy boot camp’? 🙂 )
The rest of the week several friends and buddies popped in to do sets, which is always nice to catch up with them back in the green room. And for one night, Seinfeld writer/producer and a fantastic comedianne, Carol Leifer, showed up to 
entertain the masses. I’m a big fan of hers and we last got to work together doing a high-end charity benefit in Reno, along with singer, Michael Bolton, Songwriter, Paul Williams, and many others. Carol was as funny as ever, and the audience loved her.
I always feel very blessed to perform at this wonderful club. And for everything I’ve gleaned from fellow performers, comedians, and staff while working there. It’s my ‘go to’ place to work on new material and comedy magic bits that will eventually find their way into my touring show, or as part of my corporate performances. Big THANK YOU’s to all who work there! And the love and support I’ve received over the years, every time I stop in for a visit. If you’ve not been there, I can’t recommend the club enough. Not only is EVERY SINGLE NIGHT an amazing of top talent (and surprise celebrity ‘drop-ins’!) but they have a full dinner menu which is delicious. If you’re into live comedy, this should be on your bucket-list! 🙂
